I performed an inspection of the historic cabins in 2008 and it wasn’t until 2012 that funding was provided by the Cargill Corporation. In addition to funding they also supplied volunteers to work under the direction of Mark Johnson of Artisan Restoration LLC. The Armistead cabin was built in 1850 and was the oldest cabin restored to date by Artisan. The project progressed rapidly with the volunteers removing the old chinking and helping to install the new acrylic chinking. That progress came to a halt one day when Vice president Biden came to town for a campaign speech at the nearby opera house and the Secret Service told us we had to leave the area.
